Methods
Time flies. I looked over at when I last posted and was surprised. It was the eighteenth. I’ll blame it on sleepless nights.
I was up four times walking Wingnut through the kitchen last night. Turns out he has an ear infection, but you’d know that if you’ve been to Camera Shy today.
So I said in the last post I’d talk more about the baby sleep book I’m reading. I don’t know, but I’m suspicious of sleep methods. If you do these things, says the expert, you and your baby will do wonders. If you don’t, then well you’re a dumb ass for not listening. That’s my take on these things.
It’s ironic because I tend to like self-help books. I’m fascinated by them, at the very least, because they play to our desire for life to be programmatic. You know, we want to believe there is rhyme and reason to life. All that’s left is to figure it out. So, we look for the right book to help us with that.
This sleep book is full of useful information, but it’s full of itself. I think we’ll end up doing what seems best with Wingnut, like we’ve done with the others. I don’t like the idea of subjecting my baby to some method– my own excluded.

Lemme know if theres anything I can do.
Most of those books make me cringe. I thought Dr. Sear’s “The Baby Sleep Book” was the most reasonable sleep book. Overall though, kids are suppose to wake up often in the night. Their stomaches are only the size of their fist and it is a biological alarm clock to protect children from sleeping too soundly which can lead to SIDS.
If there was any perfect parenting book, we’d all have perfect kids and perfect lives, right? How boring.
Do what seems best, and the rest will work itself out in due time.
You certainly know your own little Wingnut best and can formulate the best “method” for him designed for his specific circumstances.
I think the single most important factor for any method to be successful; be it your own or out of some book, is CONSISTENCY!!
My SIL is a self help book /lecture junkie. A different one for every issue every week. Literally!!!
My nephews and niece are so difficult to be around and in my opinion it’s due to the lack of consistency.
Yet again…
