Tote the Baby
The Missus went for a check-up yesterday and all is well. The Doc thinks this will be another “big one.” That’s no big surprise to me, since we tend to make fat babies.
I mentioned the other day that the Missus has been having difficulty sleeping. Netmom suggested a body pillow. So, last night the Missus bought one with some early birthday money. She also ordered a hippie sling to tote the newbaby around with.

Ahem,
‘hippy’ sling.
Are you calling me hippy?
Heh.
Burn.
The Sling…

I had some left-over frabric and some safety pins… you shoulda let me know.
I think these things are great (in concept, at least, since I’ve never used one myself) but I think $59 is a bit much for a couple yards of fabric.
Ha ha. Thanks anyway. We didn’t pay $59 for ours.
“left-over frabric and some safety pins”
What??
That’s like wondering why spend the extra bucks on left-hand milk stout when Miller High Life will get you just as drunk.
No, see, there’s actually a difference between the beers.
With the sling, it’s literally just a couple yards worth of fabric and a plastic hoop to attach the ends.
At least, that’s what the models I’ve seen looked like…
Ah, but like beer, not all fabrics are created equal. Are 150 thread count sheets as comfortable as 400 thread count sheets? Would you reupholster a couch with felt bought at Wal-Mart’s clearance bin?
Yes, the slings are expensive. They also have an excellent reputation for being sturdy, safe and long-lasting. I’m looking forward to getting mine and haven’t thought twice about the investment.
Now you’re an elitist hippie.
Heh. Touché. If appreciating things of high quality (beer, fabric, schools) makes me an elitist, that’s fine with me.
You even have the added elitist quality of adding the dealy to teh top of the e. Trés chic.
Congrats — the babysling has to be one of the greatest inventions! Just beware if you want to tour the White House; the security guard (even back in January 1995) wanted to x-ray “my purse.”
It was so cold in DC that week, having Delta in the sling snuggled up next to me was the only thing that kept both of us from freezing. Fortunately, once I showed the guard what was in the sling, he let us on through with no x-ray.
“Purse,” indeed.
[...] A Wingnut in Asheville We took Wingnut to his very first concert Wednesday evening. Well, he went with us really. We saw The Arcade Fire play at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, NC. (Sara, you might like them. They even have a euphonium in the line-up! They don’t have a trombone, though.) Wing slept through the whole thing and seems to have survived the thing just fine. We plugged up his ears and the Missus slung him in the hippy sling. [...]
