Clean clothes!

I’m learning to put a cloth diaper on the Wingnut. It’s not as hard as I expected it to be, but there’s technique to it for sure.

Oh, to have a washing machine again. The big metal box came today while I was at work. The home depot delivery guys installed  it and carried off the old one. I’m disappointed that the old one will be “junked”. I’d hope it would be melted down, recycled, or some such.

Now to fold laundry. Joy.

Oh, and soy yogurt is pretty tasty. Who’d thunk it?

Shroom Pizza

Mellow Mushroom makes some good pizza. Well, technically I had a calzone and the kids had pizza, but nonetheless their pizza is tasty. We met AT and the boys over there at the Farragut location this evening to celebrate the end of the kid’s school year. It seems that the Mellow Mushroom has become part of our eating tradition. AT and our crew have eaten at there a couple times now. Then when we go to the Tenn Aquirium we make a point to eat lunch at the Mellow Mushroom there.

I’m hoping for some sleep tonight. Last night was better than the night before, but that doesn’t make for a sleeping trend. He’s had sleepy nights only to be follow by fussy wakefulness. He’s worn out for sure. In fact he’s asleep right now.

Ummm, Still here and still alive. We got a little bit more sleep last night.

Today is the first day of summer vacation. Woot.

Eczema, Yogurt & Washing Machines

•June 3, 2007 • 13 Comments

Wing has a nice case of Eczema. I’m not sure why it’s flared up now, but I wonder if the antibiotics he’s been taking the past four weeks aren’t to blame. Who knows, but I’ll be watching when we finish the antibiotic run to see if it doesn’t clear up. Fortunately soy yogurt doesn’t bother him and he loves it. He eats like we’re starving him.

The doc said his infected ear is looking better. The antibiotic is good for something.

We’ve found that he likes to nap in his crib. All we have to do is lay him down and he’ll go to sleep. Well, it works when he goes to sleep. How’s that for a tautology? He sleeps in the crib when he goes to sleep in the crib. (I think I need to go to sleep.)

The washing machine gave up the ghost yesterday. Keep in mind that this comes right on the heels of our switch to cloth diapers. You have to wash cloth diapers really often, see. The old washing machine just wasn’t up for it. We went and bought ourselves a new machine today from Home Depot. Now the old van will be paid off a couple months later than planned as a result.

Milk

This morning the Missus gave Wing some yogurt. All the antibiotics have wiped his gut out and made him even more miserable. Wing loved the yogurt and ate it right up. He even opened his mouth for the spoon when he first saw it.

The Missus took the empty bowl to the sink and when she came back Wing’s face was red where the yogurt had gotten on him. Bright red with little white bumps. Scary stuff to say the least. This cleared up after about an hour.

Seems the poor guy has a pretty strong allergic response to lactose, milk, dairy, or whatever.

Doctor Visit #3

•May 29, 2007 • 3 Comments

Wing still has an ear infection and a stuffy nose, too. He has a new round of antibiotics which will hopefully kick the ear infection.

The Doc commented that his ears aren’t getting off to a good start. I hope this doesn’t portend of future ear troubles. Spotz had his first ear infection when he was 6 months old, then went on to have tubes inserted twice. Wing is very similar to old Spotz. They look alike. I hope their ears aren’t alike.

Happy First Anniversary– Belated.

The Missus has taken the book ends off to Home Depot to buy some paint that’s on Memorial Day sale. The bookends are October & Wingnut; the eldest and youngest.

Lug and Spotz are outside playing in the pool probably making a royal mess.

I got the feeling that the first anniversary of Ninemonths has come and gone. It has, and my first post was on May 13, 2006.

[update]

Lug & Spotz have made a mud pit.

Technique

How to lie a Wingnut down in his crib once he is asleep.

  1. Lie Wing gently on his side;
  2. While holding him in place, prop a blanket next to his back;
  3. pray, mutter incantation, or breath deeply;
  4. tip-toe out of room;
  5. threaten all other occupants of house with bloody murder if they make any loud noise.

Now go get your work done, drink a beer, or read.

Cloth Diapers

Thanks to a friend we are trying cloth diapers on Wing. I’m surprised at how well they work — very absorbent. I also like their enviro value. Is it enough to offset the additional work load they promise? It’s worth a try. Like everything else cloth diapers are a commodity and so there are a dozen dozen variety. Just do a google search on them.

I mentioned earlier that my Mamaw had hip surgery. X-rays taken yesterday indicate she needs a second operation. The bone isn’t getting blood, so a hip replacement is required. Keep her in your prayers, please.
